Lenticular Printing – From Optical Experiment to Winking Postcards

Lenticular printing, commonly referred to today as lenticular, is based on a seemingly simple principle: a sheet containing an array of very fine cylindrical lenses is placed over a specially prepared image. Each lens directs different parts of the image at different angles. As a result, moving the card reveals a second image, animation, color change, or spatial 3D effect—without glasses.
